Hi There

There appears to be an overwhelming amount of news that can't wait another three months(September 2016 Spring Issue)

Thus,....I must, I am,....actually in the process, of ......creating,...writing the Winter Mid Year Supplement.

Any additional Stories that a reader, contributor or even a novice would wish, nay,..like to include,..please,..by extended invitation,....I would like to have it by next week.

Busy end of Financial Year approaches us, even Tax Time,......not to mention a Election Day coming our way in a few days,.......all forces work compression on us all,.....

I promise you one thing, it will be not as boring as the past 52 days of Pork Barrelling by the Pollies!!!

Gordy,...tap,...tap,...tap goes the keyboard!! Its almost out the ramp this edition!!

Poor thing needs a bath and to be displayed a little bit better but I'm very pleased she exists!

Good pic, thx Brenden.

Yes, Rhino, glad it exists - that was my point of the article, to be grateful we have it, its provenance is what it purports to be, but.... I think it would be better off in the RAAF Museum.

Gordy

re your P40 Ops, part 7.

You must be well and truly bald by now, tearing your hair out trying to tie up these serial numbers.

It is so easy to accept the previous published data, without looking under the surface. Great research !!! biggrin.gif

Yeah, but now self imposed and burdened with 2OTU "S"Unit Codes of late,..arghh,..two strands left!!

LOl

Thanks John, but its a joint effort over the years by all of us P-40 Mafia,..liitle comment here, a doc there,..and a few beers had by some

Anyway, if you divest yourself of the bad and errs of post war writings, the balance should be near the truth when sticking with Official docs and sources. So much more has been released by the NAA in recent years, through deep pockets( Fees keep on &^%$#@ going up!!)

Maybe future adopted Gordy Mk2 (none of my 3 sons are interested) will tie up those balance of the first 25 A29 with actual USAAF FY Serials (now known), the start of all of this in 1996,..........I'm up to 8 out of 25,..and that took 20 years with the help of a select few(Buz especially), including those on a shovel in PNG.

I digress

2 OTU codes?

How about the two letter codes? I have seen P-40s marked I think "AB" and "CD" - possibly in red ??

How does that work??

Boy Batman,.....haven't got down to the 2OTUs P-40s yet,..so just hold on young fellah

Basically they're arranged in Flights: Type Conversion, Advanced Fighter tactics etc. A Flight conversion,...B Flight the latter and don't know yet if there was a C Flight. So,...A Flight (Mid 1944-45) A-* and B Flight (Mid 1944-45) AB-* etc,..then the basic "C Flight,...CD????

Somewhere in 1943-44 82 Sqn seemingly was acting as a pseudo Advanced Fighter tactics or Kindergarten Holding Unit for replacement pilots pending assignment to 75/76/77/80/84 Sqns up north,..or so it seems on light appraisal last night.

In any case,...having trouble with 77 Sqn P-40N Codes in 1944/45 let alone those 2OTU Ones currently, LOL.

But,....think I found the A29- ID of AM-R "broken back P-40N with USAAF Star and bar on top of port wing",....a P-40N-30. Just need to check the details of the accident.

Apart from that,....I's off,..but just to keep you interested,..P-40K A29-178 CD-U received by 2 OTU on 22/4/43 and carried on until 1945 with them
