ADF Serials Message Board > Museums & Airbases > SAAM Question 1 - C-130A Allison T56-A-9 damage

Posted by: Brendan Cowan May 22 2013, 02:12 PM
Hi All,

This is the first of a series of questions that I am putting out for the South Australian Aviation Museum.

The museum has in it's collection an Allison T56-A-9 engine that has been the target in some sort of of trials work.

The damage seems to be a combination of light calbibre fire and possibly laser or other cutting equioment.

Can anyone shed any light?

Looks more like battle damage, or something to look as such. Then no doubt used to train the techo's on inspections and also repairs etc.

This engine was one of two, along with a various collection of airframe parts that were used to determine damage caused by a Missile warhead. One of the museum members was part of this exercise.
The white painted damage is from the first detonation, the unpainted from the second.
