ADF Serials Message Board > Getting Started & Feedback > Adding Attachments To Posts

Hi Folks,

Darren and I were having a bit of a cyber chat today about the value that we all get from sharing information on this message board including photographic attatchments.

Clearly, we get a lot of value!

We also know that more of you want to post photos.

So the obvious solution was to have a two month trial where we made this facility available to all members.

So what's the catch?

OK - a few rules:

1) The attatchment must be on topic.
2) They must not be more than 200k per post.
3) We reserve the right to moderate out inappropriate posts (as ever).
4) This will not be available to guest accounts (so joining up is the answer!).

We will monitor the financial, space and quality impacts of these changes during the trial.

Otherwise - dazzle us with your photographic gems!

All feedback welcome.

Brendan, how do I post pics with my posts? I don't seem to be doing the right thing.

Hi Waynne,

You should see a section below the Post Icons Called "File Attachments" when you start a topic or reply to a post.

From there, you can browse to the file that you want to upload.

Drop me a line to brendan.cowan@adf-serials.com if that doesn't work as advertised.

Waynne also asked:

Hi Brendan,

What format do the picture files have to be?

Fair question thinks I - so I replied:

Hi Waynne,

Good question.

The allowable formats at the moment are:

*.gif
*.jpeg
*.jpg
*.png

I should put this info into the message board too.

Thanks for trying this out.

The feedback and questions do help me tune this service up.

Happy posting!

Is there any chance of opening this feature up so that external links will work too?

For example, if I try and link one of my images that I already have on the web into a message here, all that apprears is the link (even when I use the "img" function above the message pane). On other sites, this will allow the image to appear in the message.

Also, if this can be done, can the limit of one image per post be changed as well?

I believe that this would make it much easier and encourage the inclusion of more images within messages.

Just asking. happy.gif

Cheers,
Motty.

G'day Motty,

not sure why this doesnt work. it could be that this is a very old version. We can look at upgrading it but I would want to make sure we didnt have to start all over again.

I'll see if Brendan and I can chat about this feature and get it going...

Thanks Darren.

Obviously as long as there is no extra costs or disruptions involved.

I thought it might just be a feature that could be "switched on" or similar.

Motty.

Like Brenden I am stumped...

I did find a [Do HTML] option in both the management settings of forums and in the setting of user groups. I tried enabling these for this feedback forum and the user groups of admin and members... hoping that would work... but it didnt.

Hopefully Brendan can take another look and he might see something I missed.

Folks,

I've had another look and reluctantly have to admit that I have no bright ideas or insights.

I simply can't find any available feature in the adminstration or moderation consoles that allow me to rectify the problem in this version of the software.

My apologies to all.

I guess our only option is upgrade...

Thanks for having a look guys but I don't know if there's a need for the extra expense of an upgrade. I don't know whether anyone other than me would use that feature? If no-one else has raised the issue.......

It's odd that it doesn't work as the layout of this forum looks a lot like the one on Aircraft Resource Center used to in the past and that's where I learned to used that function.

Thanks again for taking the time to have a look anyway.

Cheers,
Motty.
