ADF Serials Message Board > Navy Aircraft - Royal Australian Navy Fleet Air Arm > Romeo Serials? |

There are very few visual differences between the Seahawk Bravo and Romeo models yet they received different serial prefixes. The S70B carries N24-xxx and the MH60R carries N48-xxx Compare this with the Hercules that has had four very different model over 50 years yet retained the A97-xxx serial, the F-111 two distinct models both A8-xxx and the Chinook with three models all A15-xxx, There are many other examples of different aircraft with the same series serial. Beaufighters had two different A numbers |

True that the Beaufighters had different serials for the imported and locally built examples. I think that was also to use up the vacant A8- prefix that was going to be used for the Bristol Blenheim. The other anomaly is that the A19 aircraft were delivered before the A8 aircraft! So I think that the Beaufighter was more the exception than the rule. Most of its WWII contemporaries kept a single prefix over sometimes many different models. |
