ADF Serials Message Board > New Zealand Military Aircraft & Aircrew > Kangas To Kiwis

G'day Folks,

A new year brain teaser to get us back into the swing.......

Thinking about the RNZAF Skyhawks led me to wonder "Just how many ADF aircraft have crossed the Tasman to become flying kiwis?"

Naturally there were the Skyhawks.

Also, several of the RAAF's Mosquitos joined the RNZAF (Some as intructional airframes only).

Of course many ex ADF aircraft have had post military carers on the ZK register too (and quite a few have gone the other way to become warbirds on the VH register too).

There must have been others.

Anyone want to add to the list?

Cheers

Clearly I've answered my own question - or alternatively - this topic was a flop!

I would not say your discusion was a flop[, if it gets people thinking it is worthwhile.

As we talk the RNZAF is trying to buy a non flying C130A as a load trainer.

The aircraft has an interesting history, when I have moe info I will let you know.

Thanks Col,

Do you know which C-130 airframes are under consideration?

Only one airframe involved, Lockheed 3130 USAF 56-0522.

Originally built as a C130A but in May 67 was converted to a WC130A, then in April 71, was converted back to a C130a.

On phase out of A models was allotted to Peru, was this did not happen.

I will see if I can obtain more info, it is to be used as a Load Trainer in New Zealand.

A little more on the New Zealand C130A.

Up to 3 years ago, the airplane was complete.

As it is located on an active USAF base, and not at AMARC, then it still could be a flyer.

Hope to get some more info, and a photo soon.

Better late than never!

Orion A9-291 became NZ4206

Don't forget the reverse trade too. Re-assigned MAC Hudsons coming to Australia, while some of ours went there.

Us Army Air Force Code for NZ was "Alhambra" in 1942

Also some 4-6 Hinds sent ex RNZAF to RAAF in early 1942

But , I'll leave the seeds there

from Phantom
Hows this ?

"Four aircraft (NZ1511, '1521, '1522 and '1538) were sent to Australia in April 1942 to provide spares for Hinds still in RAAF service".

From here.
