Folks,

We have acquired from Eddie Coates this great piccy of 3 x Fireflys in RN guise prior to joining the RAN.

I think 227 is VT504, can anyone confirm and ID the other two?

Grahame..I have the same photos here, but the serials are indistinct. They may not have gone to the fledgling RAN FAA but have been kept in RN service. Anyway
have got plenty more Firefly pics if needed.

G'day Dave, how's the sunny South Coast? B)

This pic was amongst a heap of great stuff from Eddie Coates and it would have been a delightfully historic shot if all three had become RAN. As it is our Firefly gallery is a bit thin so any gems you can slide our way would be gratefully received.

In the first pic there is an Armourer (I presume) standing on the wing holding a Belt Feed Mechanism with ammo for the 20 mm cannon, in the bottom right there is another BFM that has HEI ammo in it.

Would this be from the Korean War era??

Certainly the pic with armourers is a Korean War pic on HMAS Sydney.

Pic of Meteor in Korea in 1951 has come from the same Sandberg source as the other pics on this thread. Use is welcome with acknowledge to source. I have no other knowledge of the photo other than caption / source.

No where to go on a straight deck carrier except into the series of barriers that were meant to trip the U/C so that aircraft nosed over to stop most often but sometimes not. Hence many bent props and reserviced engines. Pic 805 Sqdn HMAS Sydney prang. Probably RAN Official due quality.
