I took a drive past RAAF Pearce today for the first time in over three years and noted Macchi A7-027 in 2 FTS "fanta can" scheme markings on display as a Gate Guard.

Apologies if this has been reported before.

I couldn't see anything else as all the PC9s and Hawks were hidden from view.

Had the camera with me but the Macchi's not in a good position to photograph unless you are on the base.

Somehow I don't think the RAAF would like cameras being pointed through the fence and I didn't take that chance.

I also spotted another Macchi in very faded grey scheme near the "carport" hangars but it was too far away to identify but I suspect it's A7-041 formerly of No 25 Sqn which I noted at the last Pearce Open Day on 19 November 2005.

Hi all,

Firstly, thanks for the excellent work put into this site!

Just wanted to post an update about the Pearce Gate Guard.

A7-027 was moved to a grass area (same spot pointed to on photo) by the 25 Squadron RAAF Headquarters building a while back. A concrete block was finally laid down in this spot (as seen in latest imagery) and it also has cover. Good to see that they finally did a decent job to display the aircraft properly. It was frustrating seeing it in the open, on the grass at the gate when going past it for so long! (Had a canopy cover though)

A7-041 is parked with the Hawks under the shelters.

Hi M3Trix, welcome aboard.
Thanks for the heads up, good to see yet another Macchi preserved.
Do you have any photos of it in it's new location?

Thanks! Don't worry, I wasn't planning on trying to get the photo myself. Only way is to get an official defence photographer to take a photo, but it would probably be restricted to personal use...
