Well - this is a 'world renowned easy to use forum for files'. :-) I have three browsers - in two I cannot see your attached image and only see it in EDGE (I'm using Windows 10). RIGHT CLICKING ON the PDF file name I only get an 'INDEX.PDF' save as to my computer in IE 11. The other browsers including Firefox want to download something 'INDEX.HTML'.
IF you have Win10 with IE 11 [Internet Explorer] then right click on the file name to download the 'index.PDF' and then rename it in your computer file system as you wish. As Always - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use the latest edition of ADOBE READER suitable for your OS to view the PDF. Anything else can be fraught. http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ Let me know how you go. I could e-mail the file to you. To get the original PDF file under the file size limit it had to be reprinted in black & white with 2 pages per page to get under the file size limit here. This is ONE REASON why you need to use ADOBE READER. IF you download INDEX.HTML you can rename the file as INDEX.PDF to then view it with Adobe Reader and you can rename the file also. Firefox says INDEX.PHP which you can download and rename as above to .PDF etc. This post has been edited by Luig on Oct 29 2018, 03:00 PM |

Well I finally downloaded the PDF file using Internet Explorer 11 (on Windows 10)
It appeared to download OK but after a few seconds my screen went black and the "Monitor going to sleep" message appeared. Now I am no IT guru but maybe an external host (dropbox?) is needed for these files |

I think you'd agree the software supporting this forum is old & decrepit and not up to the demands of this modern era? YMMV
Perhaps you may find your computer has been 'infected' with something that is then causing these issues? I have described my issues/workarounds. And btw are you using the latest Adobe Reader to view the PDF? This post has been edited by Luig on Nov 19 2018, 06:02 PM |

Yes Phil I'm using the latest versions of both browser and reader.
Please don't take this the wrong way but I don't have issues with anything but some of your file uploads. Maybe there is some issue at your end which is why you can't upload photos. Not picking only suggesting. |

Have you seen the PDF yet? Obviously I can upload photos and have done so for some time in other sub forum sections here but not in the 'newsletter' sub-forum. I complain but try my best to use work arounds. I'll repeat: have you seen the PDF? IF NOT perhaps it is your problem? Has anyone else had troubles? They have not posted them here AFAIK.
How many PDFs from others get posted here? Not many because the file size restriction does make this an issue itself. I'll repeat: Have you seen the PDF after all this effort? This post has been edited by Luig on Nov 21 2018, 12:45 AM |

FWIW, I can also open the attachment directly in IE11 by clicking on the link but Edge and Chrome both produce the same page of code.

Thanks for replies however to me some are problematic - they have assumed I know what is meant - yes people have to describe in detail what they do and what they see. Sorry to be so narky about this but one cannot 'assume'.
The method I have described above is my method - basically download the 'pdf' to rename it as a 'pdf' as/IF required - this may not be required. Once the PDF is downloaded then open it with the latest Adobe Reader suitable for your operating system. I do not believe (given reference to previous method described a few posts back in this thread) that I can be more clearer. If someone uses a different method such as left clicking to view the PDF via their web browser then that is NOT what I have described. IF that method works for you - BRAVO - it may work for others but I have NOT described that method. People can send me an e-mail: phillipthompson2@bigpond.co (m) need to be added but left out here to attempt to stop robotic pickup of my address. Remember that the latest version of Adobe Reader needs to be used - my version is Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (19.008.20081) - however I use the latest Adobe Acrobat Pro 2017 to MAKE/VIEW PDF files so I'll test it AGAIN with Adobe Reader.... BEAR IN MIND that since the PDF in original post here was uploaded that Windows 10 has gone through some updates along with Acrobat. What it means in reality I have no idea. So I have just RIGHT MOUSE CLICKED on the PDF link in my first post above (using IE 11) to download the "INDEX.PDF" and opened it successfully with my ACROBAT now I'll try Adobe Acrobat Reader.... NOT a problem PDF file seen by both programs. IF this forum had a larger file size limit then I would not have to jump through hoops to reduce the file size to get it under the limit. This process may have caused the problem for some but if you follow the procedure outlined it should not be a problem yet YMMV. I shrug. This post has been edited by Luig on Nov 21 2018, 08:04 PM |

G'day Phil
I can view the PDF file using Internet Explorer but neither Edge nor Chrome work (I just get the page of code) Don't stress over it, I am sure everybody still has Internet Explorer on their computers. |

OK - but that is not the method I've described. Are you able to download the PDF first and then viewing it with Adobe Reader? I'll see if my IE 11 can view the PDF. I'm not stressing about it but you may realise this is good info for me about difficulties faced because I make heaps of PDFs for distribution online (where people STILL do not follow my recommended method - for example try 'viewing' the 4.4Gb PDF in IE 11 in Win10). :-)
I see the PDF OK in IE 11 Win10 (changes made to both in meantime most likely) but then I guess you can save the PDF when it is in IE11? SAVED to HD & viewed OK with both Adobe Acrobat programs. Don't try this download method for LARGE PDF files however - use my method. This post has been edited by Luig on Nov 22 2018, 04:01 PM |

Yep it is good to be creative to solve problems. YEAH BUT NO BUT YEAH BUT...
How about DOWNLOADING the HTML FILE in EDGE FIRST - then when it is in your file system change the HTM file extension to PDF? Works for me. USING FIREFOX (both in Win10) you can change the file extension to PDF before downloading but you could also download the PHP file then change.... NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! Phil, that doesn't work for me! As I stated in a previous reply I have downloaded it multiple times EXACTLY as you say in Edge but all I get is the HTM file which I cannot change to a PDF no matter what I do. I don't have Firefox which is just another web browser. By using Chrome or Internet Explorer, I have success so really don't need another browser I am no IT guru but I am not an idiot either. Let's leave it there. |

Well that is weird. I cannot think of why you cannot change the 3 letter file extension name in Windows 10 once the file is on your computer. You have forbidden this somehow in your Win10 Security setup? Beats me. It is interesting to me to find out all these issues. Perhaps changing where the file is - making a copy of the .HTM file in another 'less secure' place in your file system will solve the problem?

Success, instead of renaming Index.htm to Index.pdf I completely renamed it as File.pdf as it works
Beats me! |

Good to know these workarounds in case I - or someone - needs them.
