The international air show sounds great, there hasn't been a big one at Nowra since the FAA 50th Anniversary Show (as far as I can remember, although that's not saying much!) and that was bloody fantastic, if it's anything like the 50th it will be well worth attending.

I just noticed the updated page mentions the only RAAF participants at the Diamond Jubilee airshow will be the Hornet, Hawk and C-17. No Pig!!! Very disappointing if this is the case.

It is news to me that there is only ONE DAY for AIRSHOW on Sunday. I'm finding out more. Perhaps the Saturday show was a rehearsal only for the 60th anniversary navy perhaps? However this is the official info below:

http://www.navy.gov.au/faam/airshows/

Where: RAN Air Station HMAS Albatross, Nowra
When: Sunday 26th October 2008
Time: Gates Open at 8:00am - Flying displays commence at 11:00am
Cost: $20 adults, $5 children (5 - 18)
Why: To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Fleet Air Arm Museum and HMAS ALBATROSS 1948 to 2008. Ticket price includes Museum entry.
What's On: Entertainment includes Static Displays, RAN Band, food and souvenir stalls.

Flying displays include:

INTERNATIONAL military and warbird displays by special invitation
NAVY Seahawk, Sea King, Augusta 109 and Squirrel helicopters
RAAF F/A-18 fighter, Hawk trainer and C-17 Globemaster heavy transport
ARMY helicopters and 'Red Berets' Parachute Display Team
Heritage aircraft from the RAAF Museum, Temora Aviation Museum, Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS), Australian Warbirds Association and many other antique and classic aircraft groups
Aerobatic displays by some of Australia's top display pilots.

Hmmm, I just made accommodation for 30/31 Aug. I'm wondering if I should change it for the weekend in October.

Answer to question: Wot SeeFurie? "At NAS Nowra Air Show. An Ex-Royal Navy Sea Fury sold back to Hawkers who in turn sold it to the Cubans. In the eighties it was at Nowra painted in Oxford Blue, spent a lot of time in "D" hangar but eventually taken away overseas by its owner. Now back in country and at Wangaratta."

According to the guys at AMI, the airshow has been cut to one day because the Government has told all departments to cut costs. There's a new site here: Air Day Spectacular and good news, according to the flying program a Pig will be making a visit, performing a Handling and Dump and Burn Display from 1330 to 1336. Unfortunately, it won't be staying, but hey, beggars can't be choosers!

Vark of much SuperNess, thanks for the website link. To my knowledge from the FAAAA website at: http://www.faaaa.asn.au/news/reunions/sixty_years.htm

"HMAS Albatross has decided to run only ONE official air day, on Sunday, 26th October, and has designated Saturday 25th as a practice air day (note: the general public will not have access on the Saturday). This has been compounded by the Federal Government initiative to cut spending by $17 billion over 10 years on the armed services and instructions came from the RAAF who have the purse strings."

I've just checked the flying program and now I want to know what is international about it?

No foreign services involved as far as I am aware.

Dean, are you reacting to this statement? "This has been compounded by the Federal Government initiative to cut spending by $17 billion over 10 years on the armed services and instructions came from the RAAF who have the purse strings."

This is a reality, the Historic Flight may close due to lack of funds also. The FAA is a tiny outfit today compared to the RAAF of today. Probably there were 'international' invitees who decided not to come at last minute. What can anyone do about that?
Phil.

Well, they're no longer promoting it as an international airshow. Which is a shame, I still remember the 50th, I was only 13, but it was probably the first and last time I'll ever see a Nimrod up close.
Although, I am glad the RAAF has sent a Pig, if only for a flypast. The first and last time I wished I was a Queenslander. :P

Well the F-111 display was a flyless-past ! Although it did put in a partial appearance with the escape capsule cockpit display.

Looking closely at on-line galleries from a certain beachside car race on the same weekend, it appears that three were used ( A8-140, -144 and -148 ) to entertain the revheads.

Also looked like a major ADF Recruiting effort on the deck.

Highlight for me was the RANHF Tracker. A rejected take-off and wing-fold demo moistened a few eyes !

Also enjoyed the Pussers Band performing the Stallion Seranade.
Actually, they announced the arrival of the massed flutter-past which was great to see and hear.
