Hi everybody
I have spent a few hours trying to give the Hueys a bit of a refresh Can you let me know if it needs any more detail added For instance there is no referance made to 5 Aviation Regiment If anyone can fill in some gaps please please let me know. http://adf-serials.com.au/3a2.shtml There are also 90 new photos added with a couple of dozen more to come. I have added 8 new albums for A2-379, -383, -385, -486, -490, -510, -721 and -1025 http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/Iroquois/ (A question for cj0203; Chris would you be kind enough to allow us to use some of the shots from Facebook?) For those unaware Chris has a Facebook page dedicated to the Huey http://www.facebook.com/groups/323455847694763/ |

Great. I've been getting an even bigger collection lately and will try and share some more also.
In regards to A2-486, I was looking at it the other day but didn't have my phone to take pics, it is now a burned out shell, The fire boys at Oakey must have used her for a training simulation and now she is literally 'toast'. I'm on holidays and then heading to Tamworth for my flying training but I've got a mate on the case to get some pics, stay tuned, but it's not pretty. |

I guess the effectiveness of the camouflage scheme depends on the background.
For urban areas this would be hard to beat Attached Image |

Noted in the Northern Services Courier newspaper in Townsville, A2-488 is to replace the Neptune near the Duckworth St gate at RAAF Townsville. It will be re-locatable for cyclone season rather than hard mounted apparently.

If can't be there, your shots are the next best thing :D Now, on another topic, if we could get the story behind A2-110? Looks full of fumes eh! Maybe that's the fume problems with the ARH's,..... Snakes!!! Nice Roo on the nose Best Gordy Attached Image |

From memory, 110 was also the subject of this article http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1300...pg=6386,6202988 I seem to recall seeing a pic of it on its side in a DAFS crash comic not long after.
On a another vein, around 1981 some alternatives to the standard camo schemes were trialled at 5SQN. 486 had the medium green sections oversprayed with a dark brown in a desert scheme and 509 had the tan sections oversprayed with dark green in a jungle scheme (similar to one of the RNZAF schemes). Both retained the full colour roundels and large black AIR FORCE lettering on the tail booms as was 5SQN's standard at the time. 9 & 35SQNs had gone to the subdued black kangaroos and smaller AIR FORCE titles by this stage. A pity I never thought to take any photos, maybe someone out there has some? Cheers, Rod |

Regarding photos of 489, is it possible to get hold of and use high res photos from the gallery to use in the display and RSL newsletter, they would be accredited to ADF Serials?

Hi Barney,
I'm afraid my pic is about as good as I can get for you, the original slide is not that good, it was taken at Edinburgh 1975/76. Rod This post has been edited by Rod Farquhar on Mar 16 2013, 04:39 PM |

I was supposed to be on 486 when she crashed was at Richmond and was getting a lift back to Amberley on it but had too much gear on board so was put off and had to get a lift in a Herc, 486 had a false engine fire warning and as they were about to put down spoted wires at the last second things turned bad and she roled into a pile, became a spares source for 9 Sqn and 3AD Rotary wing for the next 6 months even though we were told not to touch it as it was quarantened after the crash, first thing to disapeare were tiedown rings for everyones utes and trailers then the pedals ( she had old "BELL" "HUEY" pedals later aircraft had "BELL" "BELL" pedals, the "HUEY" pedal mounted on a plaque made a good momento for people leaving the unit.

G'day Mick, sorry about late reply, have been away. Photos did arrive and were taken to Pirie RSL. They were much appreciated. I did message you when they arrived but should have acknowledged your gift in this thread. |
