An Australian Army Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter conducted an emergency landing in South East Queensland yesterday (8 March 2012) after it struck powerlines. The two aircrew are not injured and are undergoing medical checks as a precaution. An Australian Army Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) was forced to conduct an emergency landing in a field in Quinalow, Queensland, after it struck powerlines near an Army base around noon yesterday (8 March 2012). Commandant of the Army Aviation Training Centre, Colonel David Burke, confirmed the aircrew were not injured in the accident. “The two aircrew were not injured but will undergo medical checks as a precaution. “An inspection of the ARH is being conducted to ascertain the extent of the damage. “We have also commenced inquiries into the cause of the helicopter striking the powerlines, which is unknown at this stage,” Colonel Burke said. “Local residents may have suffered a loss of power as a result of the accident and Defence apologises for any inconvenience caused.” The Army Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter is based at the Army Aviation Training Centre at Oakey, Queensland and it is expected that the aircraft will be recovered back to Oakey on Saturday 10 March. |
