Twenty two helicopters were put up for auction while the National Vietnam Veterans Museum had there all over dark green exhibit A17-007 on display outside their tent.
Alongside this was a single frame up for auction:

A17-003 Lot 16

A single frame was also in the Exhibition Hall (Hall 3) closest to the runway side

A17-026 Lot 1

On the base, a group of six were displayed along with PC-9/A A23-004 (Lot 25) on its wheels while A23-059 (Lot 28) was on a jig with wings off. These six were later relocated to the northern hangar / compound were another thirteen were stored.

The six were:

A17-011 Lot 5
A17-015 Lot 2
A17-016 Lot 6
A17-028 Lot 4
A17-046 Lot 7
A17-047 Lot 3

There were originally thirteen frames in a compound outside the northern most hangar, the group of six were added later, then all were relocated inside one of the hangars:

A17-004 Lot 21
A17-017 Lot 18
A17-018 Lot 13
A17-029 Lot 9
A17-031 Lot 12
A17-032 Lot 8
A17-036 Lot 11
A17-037 Lot 17
A17-038 Lot 20
A17-039 Lot 19
A17-040 Lot 10
A17-049 Lot 14 Data plate missing but had radio call plate
A17-051 Lot 15

Finally, a single Kiowa was located in the northern hangar with all the bits and pieces etc

A17-044 Lot 22

All radio callsign plates still on dash and ALL Data plates were checked.

Prices noted on the auction website a couple of days before closing were approximately between $8,000 and $50,000.

Similarly with PC-9/A disposals.

Already mentioned A23-004 and A23-059

A23-066 (Lot 27) and A23-067 (Lot 29) were stored in the main auction hangar with wings off in purpose built jigs while A23-043 (Lot 26) was on its wheels in the compound containing the thirteen Kiowas, bid prices noted were up around $20,000 to $50,000 odd and were basically all gutted shells, no seats no instrumentation etc so what peeps are/were planning to do with is anyones guess, engines would likely be farnacled.

If anyone followed the auction and got more updated bid prices I would appreciate these be passed on.

Cheers

Richard Siudak
Perth, Western Australia

Richard I have all the final Kiowa bids recorded.
Give me a day or two to arrange them in some order and I will post them here
In the meantime the PC-9 results are in the RAAF section;

Brilliant Martin!

I wonder how the end user certificate will read to ensure these are not found strafing some village in Africa.

A mate in the know tells me that these PC-9/A frames were likely the worst of the worst and could simply have been acquired for the PT-6 engines that could be overhauled and re-used in something else. He says that once the final auction on this type is made there could be some much better frames with some bargain prices perhaps.

Looking forward to the Kiowa final prices, very well done for getting them.

Kind Regards

Richard

My pleasure Richard
The high bidder on all the PC-9s gives their address as Sandton Gauteng, an area within Johannesburg.
They also placed loosing bids on the airworthy Kiowas
It was a bit much to keep an eye on the other auctions going off at the same time but an interesting pick was an unserviceable Kiowa engine that went for over $107,519

Thank you very much Martin for posting this disposition list.

Some interesting new homes.

A well known South Australian identity was looking at them and had his chief engineer fly over to check. A heap of Kiowa spares etc were up for offer too but he did not have a successful bid to secure any.

Some of them had served as GIFs so were never likely to fly again.

Ties up an historic end to what was a good run in ADF service.

Ciao

You are most welcome Richard.
I also have details of airframe hours, time since o/h etc which I will add to the Kiowa page
It's a pity that all the auctions were happening at once because I would of liked to have recorded how much the spares sold for.
Too much for this little black duck I am afraid.

Yes Martin,
Once again many thanks for your diligence in securing this invaluable information, a media colleague contacted the auction house long prior to the auction to get sales results but has hit a frosty silence.
Met up with a mate in the huge hangar for an inspection (I had a lazy couple of hundred bucks in my wallet - was well priced out) with all the lots laid out. He said some of the green boxes containing gear were worth much more than their contents.
Would have been a bit of a clusterf&*k with everyone turning up to collect their gear over a 72 hour pickup period. I spoke to another mate who used to work on PC-9s who said when the final ones are withdrawn around late June there will be some better models up for grabs so will be interested to see where they land up and how much.
Hopefully I am still around (I have advanced stage four terminal cancer - all good at the moment ) to follow the auction to assist you and perhaps others to record the final outcome.
I did speak with a senior RAAFie who said that the Hornets to Canada had not been finalised as this would be done over the next couple of years or so but he intimated that the twenty odd would go to Canada, another twenty odd would land up as gate guard / museum pieces while the remaining 20 or so would likely be cut up for scrap.
Seems the PC-9s will see several go to Wagga, 006 is likely to get its Chief of Air Force colours back and land up in Canberra while 001 will go to Point Cook. I also hear that one of the FAC birds will join the Fighterworld collection. Some interesting times ahead to keep abreast of. Little birdie tells me that nothing will be retained for Pearce so maybe East Sale might miss out too.
Cheers
Richard

Seemingly two more Kiowas are up for auction by the same mob that auctioned off the 22 at Avalon.
A bit too far for me to check out from Perth so if any kind souls nearby to Bandiana can follow through and advise the group it would be much appreciated.

The new owners make it hard when they don't use the same presentation of the model
The first three were shown as B/A 206B-1.
This one as B A 206B-1 so it doesn't show in same search results. I will have to work on a better search criteria.

Missed the first Kiowa, internet problems over here (almost as slow as dial-up), A17-036 had 405 bids for $116,909 but will likely have buyers premium of 9% plus the GST added, bumping it up a bit.

It is interesting to note that the two that were auctioned a second time at Bandiana fetched greater prices than they did at the first Avalon auction.

A17-031 now VH-JJP
Manufacturer: COMMONWEALTH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION PTY. LTD.
Model: B/A 206B-1
Serial number: 44531
No of engines: 1
Aircraft first registered in Australia: 24 April 2019
Year of manufacture: 1975

Registration holder commencement date: 24 April 2019
Registered operator: PENTRIDGE PTY LTD PO Box 395 KINGS MEADOWS TAS 7249 Australia
Registered operator commencement date: 24 April 2019

This may of been the pick of the crop having sat inside displayed at Oakey museum for the last 12 years

I remember VH-JJP as an ex-Ansett Junior Jumbo (BAe 146)

The JP is this and A17-011 (VH-VJP) will be Joe Pentridge.
He shows on the ABN register as "Helicopter Tours Tasmania" so that gives an indication of their future use.

Yes Brenden, have a mate that emails them on to me as soon as he gets them!

Got to keep the thread up to date in a timely manner....

Surprised to see some of these get on the register so soon, many of the frames at Avalon were missing critical parts, ie rotors, stabilisers and even engines. Would have been interested to see how these parts etc went at auction as many would have been needed to get frames back to flying status.

Maintenance on the fliers would have been spot on by the Army so reckon that most would have been genuine bargains at the end of the day, the Bell 206 frame is a well proven frame so many of these should enjoy a second life in the civil sphere of operations. Some will no doubt be repainted, however, I hope some will retain their camo and may get their possum markings back where applicable.

I'll leave the new CASA registrations to you then Richard, saves me checking the register daily, your method sounds much easier.
When they appear here I will update the Kiowa page
As I have mentioned in another post an aircraft appearing on the register doesn't necessarily indicate anything as far as its airworthiness goes
The registrations allocated to the RAN HF are a good example.
C-47B A65-86 VH-NVD has been on the register since August 2000, now at RAAHC unlikely to ever fly again.

I have transcribed some of the info from the Kiowa page to here to see the gaps from the ones which have been sold to private buyers and registered or Not yet registered. At least we know the gaps and we will just have to hurry up and wait.

Great work Brenden,
Just noted on Aussieadsb.com that A17-011 (VH-VJP) flying today but still spitting out it's Australian Army ADSB SBS code!
Agree with your sentiment on the UH-1Hs, will be interesting as Avalon is due Australian Army S-70Bs, they already have a pile of "spares" delivered, for disposal, maybe some of the Victorian subscribers could keep an eye on Avalon for sightings.
Ciao

I notice there's an AUSCAM Kiowa hulk towards the end of the TV add for the new Dora the Explorer kid's movie.
