Chinooks and Blackhawks

Are any our Chinooks able to carry both troops and extra fuel at the same time for a say a Blackhawk like what happened during Operation Neptune Spear?

Operationally, no due to open floor hatches per hook cradles, crew positions of loadies and in use role. Also, if engine failed, you can drop em on terra firma,..freefall wise

Airframe weight wise in a pinch, yes in theory, but beware of the three floor holes.

33 troops @ 120kilos all up, equals circa 3900kilos,....well within the load limit of 10000kilos.

Badders ( I can't remember their size!!) are circa 1500litre x 3 = 4500kgs Load.

In a pinch, Chooks can upload nearly 100 troops or as many that they can cram in as it bulks out long before it loads out by weight. Its been done in Vietnam, Falklands and other recent places, but not in any planned op.

When transfering Guns( Yes Guns,...the big ones,...155mm) the gun crew fly with with some pallets of "ready to go" ammo. Depending on calibre, it may also have the light truck/Landrover in it to tow it after deployment.

Sad part, if one goes down, you've lost a weak company strength force. No crash seats. Not good for morale.

100 troops if they really had to :o WOW imagine if that got shot down like what happened to US Navy SEALS from DevGru you'd lose most of a Company. Just like in the 2011 Chinook shootdown in Afghanistan in which claimed 38 lives of highly trained bad asses SF Operators.

Still not sure what you mean by the floor hatches being a problem, they are there for dropping down four cables to carry military hardware for exfil. Also isn't there a ladder that can be dropped down from the middle of the CH-47 Chinook so operators can be pick up from a river in their Special Operations Craft – Riverine...
