Hi Folks,

Happy New (Financial) Year!

This month we are starting to tackle bringing some of our largest pages (in terms of number of airframes) up to latest format adding new content where the opportunity arises.

For that reason you may see less pages updated than the last few months as it takes so much more time to work through these very large pages.

We hope that you are pleased with the results.

The First cabs off the rank for the month are:

A27 Vultee Vengeance

A52 De Havilland Mosquito (RAAF Serials)

A52 De Havilland Mosquito (RAF Serials)

The Vengeance update is not quite complete, so we will revist that one again soon.

You will notice that we have split the Mosquito into two pages for RAAF and RAF serialled airframes.

This time we have not only changed format and split the page but also added/updated the histories for over 300 airframes.

A big thank you to the Phantom who provided material to update/add 248 RAF serialled airframes alone!

Thanks for waiting so long for me to get around to that!

As ever, if you spot any errors, ommisions or can help us add to the photographic record for these types, please dop us a line at question@adf-serials.com.au.

Stay tuned for more updates.

All the best

Brendan

Hello again,

We have brought the pages for another major RAAF type up to the current format today.

This time its the turn of the faithful Avro Anson.

Again, we have split this page up to improve readability into:

A4 Avro Anson Main Page

A4 Avro Anson RAAF Serials A4-1 to A4-48

A4 Avro Anson RAF Serials (Single Letter) N1330 to W2660

A4 Avro Anson RAF Serials (Double Letter) AW451 to VM375

(IMG:http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/albums/Anson-A4-9/A4_9_Anson_b_small.jpg)

Only 8 more types to complete our reformating and update of RAAF Series Two pages!

Cheers

Brendan

Another major page has completed it's move to the current format today.

Its the Hudson's turn to to get a make over and update:

A16 Lockheed Hudson (RAAF Serials)

Lockheed Hudson (RAF Serials)

This time it's a two for one deal as we have created a brand new page for the RAF serialled Hudsons of 8, 459 & 464 Squadrons.

Special thanks to Gordy and The Phantom.

The Phantom provided details for 128 airframes to form the nucleus of the RAF Serialled Hudson page and has been patiently waiting and wondering when I would get around to building that information into a page.

Thanks also to my ever present companions:

http://www.joebaugher.com/
British Military Aircraft Serials 1911-1979 Bruce Robertson

Again, It would be great to build out the photographic record for this important type with your help.

To contribute to our image galleries for any ADF or NZDF aircraft type go to Our Image Gallery Upload Page

Seven more types to go to complete the overhaul of RAAF Series Two!

They are the Beaufort, Wirraway, Kittyhawk, Boomerang, Meteor, Vampire (A78) & Vampire (A79).

We'd like to get that done before the month is out if possible and then move on to other subjects and material!

All the best

Brendan

And to round off the week, another major type has been updated to current format:

A9 Beaufort - Main Page

A9 Beaufort - A9-1 to A9-100

A9 Beaufort - A9-101 to A9-200

A9 Beaufort - A9-201 to A9-300

A9 Beaufort - A9-301 to A9-400

A9 Beaufort - A9-401 to A9-500

A9 Beaufort - A9-501 to A9-600

A9 Beaufort - A9-601 to A9-700

A9 Beaufort - A9-701 to A9-746 & A9-1001

Would you like to help fill out our Beaufort research further?

We are on the look out for someone to adopt these pages and add more of the history of each of these airframes building on Jan Herivals work.

All the best

Brendan

Good Stuff Martin,

I can see that you're gearing up for a Vampire Page update!

Thanks to the Phantom, our Handley Page Halifax Page has expanded from 53 airframes to - we'll so many that I haven't completed the count!

We've also given Mark Lax's page on Known 462 Squadron, RAAF Aircraft Serials a bit of face lift with some images now added.

Cheers

Brendan

Thanks to the Phantom, today we have a greatly expanded Martin Baltimore Page.

Thanks also to Gordon Birkett and Janette Agg, daughter of Warrant Officer George Townson Agg - Navigator (RAAF - 400954) of 454 Sqn who provided the following:

Hi,

Some info you might want to add for 454 Squadron RAAF Baltimore aircraft.

My Dad, George Townson Agg, was a Navigator on a 454 Squadron aircraft shot down on 4 Dec 1943. He ended up in POW camp with all of the crew, except for the one crew member who bailed out instead of staying with the plane when it ditched.

The aircraft was FA578 (from Dad’s log book, recovered when he got out of POW camp), pilot was Dave Paul – there is information about him at http://www.awm.gov.au/sites/default/files/...AUL%20DFC_4.pdf

The crew details were:
Flight Lieutenant David Valentine Paul - Pilot (RAAF – 403215 or O210106) - POW
Warrant Officer George Townson Agg - Navigator (RAAF - 400954) - POW
Warrant Officer Jim Rennie (RAF- 645357) Wing Operator(sic)/Air Gunner - POW
Warrant Officer Ralph Mervyn Simpson - Wing Operator(sic)/ Air Gunner (RAAF - 406684) – missing in action – he was seen to parachute out, but they never heard from him again, so presumed KIA.
A couple of bits from Dad’s diary note at 9:40 am on that day said:
“Shot down by two Me109F East of Keos. After ditching & going down with plane – swam to the surface & through burning petrol. We were picked up by two Arado 196. …”
“Jimmie burnt a bit but rest of us (Dave & I) OK. (No news of Ralph).”

Just wanted to add: Some websites have the aircraft that they were shot down in as FA548, and this matches with http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_serials/1941_4.html.

Although Dad’s logbook says FA578, it was filled in by someone other than Dad, after the aircraft went missing. It may be that whoever filled it in did so incorrectly, and that when Dad got his log book back after the war, he didn’t remember, or check that the number was correct. The OTHER sources of information as quoted at http://www.454-459squadrons.org.au/454members/pauld.html .

Regards,
Janette

Cheers

There is a Kiowa at the RAAHC at Amberley
According to Aardvark it is a composite with the follwing parts identified

The LH front door has 056, the RH front door 008, the fin 023.

056 has been roughly stenciled on both sides of the rear fuselage.

Colours are a mismatch.
