Hello again,
I was wondering if their was ever considered a replacement for the two BAe HS.748 aircraft in use with the Navy? I thought that at one point their was some thought for BAe Jetstreams (or I might be wrong and it was another type)? Cheerzzzzz Brugal This post has been edited by Brugal on Sep 10 2013, 07:51 AM |

When the fixed wing element of the FAA was lost, so were the HS748;s There were two aircraft. One used for VIP and Observer training and the other was an electronics warfare aircraft used to train in spoofing techniques. So when the fixed wing disbanded, the majority of aircrew went with it to other Navies, air forces or simply left defence altogether. There was no need for the HS748 although I think they remained in service for a short time afterwards. As to a replacement for them, I had never heard of anything mentioned to replace these two aircraft. Maybe the RAAF would have taken over the role. That's right..... those dinosaurs lasted for a long time.....
I recall one small note in Scramble Aviation magazine (The Netherlands) that the Jetstream was considered by the RAN... although no idea how serious/official this interest was and/or it has something to do with those HS.748's. Any way, thanks for reply and interesting note. Rico 'Brugal' This post has been edited by Brugal on Sep 12 2013, 08:50 PM |

The role is now performed by Pacific Flight Services, with a King Air (B200 I believe) full of EW kit, two Westwinds and two Learjets.

Not entirely sure, but I'll see if I can find out. I know that there is some link between PEL Air and PFS, so it's likely that they are still the same PEL AIR aircraft and crews, yes. The B200 is a new addition, I only discovered it in July myself. |
