RAN Historic Flight Finds New Home 06 Nov 2018
"...HARS has advised that it proposes to keep the entire collection. In the short term it will secure the airframes and spares in its existing hangarage, most probably at Albion Park near Nowra. An assessment of each airframe will be undertaken to determine which, if any, will be restored to flying condition. Those that are deemed unable to fly for safety or economic reasons will be restored to either ground running or static display status. In the medium term HARS hopes also to lease a parcel of Defence land adjacent to the Fleet Air Arm Museum and, if successful, to raise funds to build a hangar complex there. See the schematic left for an artist's impression of how this might look. (For orientation, the large hangar with the oval roof is the existing FAAM, and the darker buildings above are the new, proposed HARS complex)...." https://www.faaaa.asn.au/ran-historic-flight-finds-new-home/ This post has been edited by Luig on Nov 6 2018, 07:48 PM Attached Image |

I somehow don't think that they are going to be able to build those buildings any time soon. If I was in HARS shoes I would have tried to do a deal with the government for a 10 year lease at a $1 a year for the hangar that they are in at Nowra. Until such time that the tracker got the tick in the box to make her fly again as well as the huey. But at least there is a bright future ahead.

My guess there will be a lot of ex-RANFAA maintainers volunteering at HARS to help out. I wish them all well.

Good question. The webmaster at FAAAA says 'not easy to know at moment' (words to that effect) as the FAAM staff are 'away' on leave etc. whilst the manager has retired; however webmaster will let me know when he knows.
Otherwise: https://www.faaaa.asn.au/fireflies-where-are-they-now/ "WD826 ...With the disbanding and demise of the RAN Historic Flight, WD826 will go on permanent static display at FAAM, coincidental with WJ109 [was on display in FAAM] being transferred to AWM." & WJ109 …has been the FAA Museum static display aircraft since mid-1980‘s. ...WJ109 is now allocated to go to the Australian War Memorial for permanent static display, some time in late 2018."
