The old 1 SQN hanger at Amberley is in the stages of being dismantled, sad to see the last days of the pig and now the old hanger is coming down also. I am sure there are people out there that have fond memories of this hanger.

By the "old 1 SQN hangar", you must mean the large squarish green hangar near the carports? I remember when this went up in about 1968 in readiness for the F-111 arrivals. Perhaps appropriate that it saw the compete life cycle of our F-4s (1970-73) and the 'pig' (1973-2010).
When built, it was the biggest and best in the RAAF, and was called the 'Taj Mahal' -or just the Taj. This post has been edited by batman on Sep 2 2010, 06:32 AM |

Yep thats the one, I have also heard lots of stories about this hanger being haunted by a ghost of some sort. I bet he isnt too happy about his home being destroyed.
