Defence has announced a new inquiry into the loss of Canberra A84-231 and it's crew, Flying Officer Michael Herbert and Pilot Officer Robert Carver.
These are the last two Australian servicemen still missing from the Vietnam conflict.
The Army History Unit will lead the search for their remains.
A84-231 (Magpie 91) was on a Combat Sky Spot mission south-west of Da Nang on 03Nov1970, the crew had dropped their bombs and were turning away to return to Phan Rang when they vanished.
To date no trace of wreckage or crew has been found.
