We are raising funds to purchase the oldest surviving Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation CA-17 Mustang in Australia. This aircraft is the Australian built version of the famous North American built P-51 Mustang.
I'm going to ask all of you to please donate what ever you can to help purchase this piece of history so that not only can our generation appreciate it but also the future generations. All donations are tax deductible as well. Below is the museum's Press Release and please if you can share this with anyone who you think might be able to help, or have any interest in this. Thanks to all of you, Soda. **SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT** The Museum has been offered a once in a lifetime chance to acquire a rare Australian built CAC Mustang - A CA-17 MK20 numbered A68-71 It is the third oldest surviving of its type in the world but most importantly it is the oldest surviving CAC Mustang in Australia. This aircraft was also used for CSIRO cloud seeding trials along with the Cessna 310 already in our collection so not only does it fill a major gap in the CAC collection, it also completes an important part within science and technology. To that end we need to raise funds for the aircraft. The total goal for this project is $350,000 which includes the acquisition and subsequent final restoration and assembly. It does not have a prop nor an engine (we can sort the former quickly with the prop on display and are already negotiating on an engine loan) however the rest of the aircraft is complete and in very good condition, having been inside since 1984. We ask all those who can donate or raise funds to help us out with this incredible project. Remember that any donation over $2 is Tax Deductible (The Museum is a DGR Item 1 and 4 and a registered not for profit organisation). If you know of any businesses or individuals who could help out, please pass the information on as well. We will keep you informed of any developments as they happen. Please note that you can pay by PayPal (includes credit cards) or bank transfer which you can find on our page below (click link etc) Remember to share this post and let's make this a reality. www.aarg.com.au/mustang.htmlwww.aarg.com.au/mustang.html This post has been edited by Brendan Cowan on Apr 25 2015, 03:38 PM |

Great stuff Dave.
We'll be watching with interest. I've also popped a note onto our entry for A86-71 at: http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a68a.htm Cheers Brendan |

A quick update, on proceedings, since the initial release of information we have received some great donations to the purchase.
However lots more is needed. I'd encourage all of you to donate what ever you can to this cause. Not only will it fill a significant hole in the museum's collection. It will then allow the Australian National Aviation Museum to display a near complete linage of CAC built aircraft. With the Wirraway, Wackett, Boomerang, Ceres, Winjeel, Sabre, Macchi and CA-31 Mock up. With hopes to acquire a Kiowa at a later date, where else in Australia will you be able to see this line up? The Australian National Aviation Museum now have a public fund raising appeal going for their CAC Mustang acquisition. There are some nice rewards in return for you money donations.
The link below has some photos of the project as it is currently. Please help the team preserve this piece of Aviation History, and also help the museum display the largest collection of CAC built aircraft anywhere in Australia. This includes examples of, Wirraway, Wackett, Boomerang, Ceres, Sabre, Winjeel, Macchi and the CA-31 Mockup. http://www.pozible.com/project/195714 |
