FYI. This news from the website URL below the message.
________________ HARS Tracker -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The President of HARS, Bob De La Hunty, announced yesterday that the Society has acquired an ex-RAN Grumman Tracker from the Qantas Apprentice training centre. The aircraft is complete (except for a pair of clocks) and, after transport to Albion Park (near Wollongong) and re-connection of the wings and tail, will be made airworthy. Two members of this forum were present at HARS "Tour Guides" training program when this news was released as part of Bob's address to the group. _____________________________________________ http://rnzaf.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=Aussie&action=display&thread=1162075330 Phil. |

Thanks Phil, yes it looks good. It'll be nice to see this one fly with the Historic Flight Tracker(wishful thinking?) Great to see they are being preserved.
Dave :) |

If I recall correctly, towards the end the problem was engines.
To get them to Sale, the navy had one set of servicable engines. Each air craft was flown down tom Sale, the engines removed aznd then hung on the next airframe, until all the trackers were there. However the one that went to Qantas, may have good engines, but eventually Bob will have to find some more. Bit like the Caribou, engine availability is a problem. Col ' |

Col yes thats right about the engines. From memory they sold the remaining engines to Brazil, I think it was, but the salesman was a bit shonky and they lost the lot somehow. The HARS Tracker I have been told will be flying within 2 months.

Here is a 6Mb .WMV video clip available for download URL: (I did not realise that the video was going to be converted to an .FLV video now 6.7Mb in size) If you have the plugin for .FLV - Flash Video - then no problemo.
http://www.esnips.com/doc/56aaeaa0-1394-45f4-ba7f-13576aaa12ab Sorry about the poor quality of the .WMV video clip (from old tape) of an RAN Tracker approach and arrest on HMAS Melbourne. The clip shows an unnecessary radar guided approach control (for film effect I guess) although aircraft may have practiced these during the day. Also the clip shows the TACCO or pilot/observer in the right hand seat making a lot of comments for the sake of the film crew I suspect. Phil.
