Sorry don't know anything further other than the aircraft is on the engine runup site with a noise suppressor attached to one end with a 'test IAS probe'? at the other. Date would be late 1970s - early 80s at the southern end of 'J' Hangar at NAS Nowra, aircraft is from VC-724 (likely the testing is for the Delmar Target Tow system of that era).

I remember that A4. It was used for Rushton target trials. There were 2 vanes near the tip of the probe. I think it was to simulate anti shipping missiles. Sometime between 1981 and 83 The sheet metal bay at ASU spent a lot of time repairing the targets after mishaps. It remained in the old colour scheme until retirement.

exbirdy, (John) Thanks. I have sent you a privat e-mail also. Do you know more about the Rushton target? Was it also called the Delmar Target? Or is it a completely different target system? Thanks.

Phil
The Rushton target was from the U.K. It was a large missile shape with a T tail and if I remember correctly was painted black. I have not seen any reference to it anywhere. I dont know if it was used with the Delmar winch or it used the Rushton winch as used by the RAF and RN. I never saw it fitted to an aircraft only in the ASU sheetmetal shop. The TA4 was in B hangar when ever I saw it. John |
