As I winged out of Sydney late last week on QANTAS, I looked down and saw the new Adelaide getting a fresh coat of dark grey paint on the deck. Looked pretty big in relative size of the dock. Wasn't able to use my camera,...that first 20 mins of flight rule you know.

Hope its the new USN Heat resistant Deck paint invented for the F-35Bs :P

Be nice to have 8 on the her deck, along with her sister ship B)

Gordy

Per Pic,..yeah I know its the Spanish one,...see,..foresight, AV-8B's!!!

I agree we should operate STOVL from these boats with a few appropriate mods - trouble is our brass/white paper authors are sold on subs rather than a balanced force.... :( most of the present generation probably do not even know we operated fixed wing off a carrier 32 odd years ago... only the older generation with the CDF being an ex Scooter driver (and ex birdie) and the new Chief of the navy being an ex birdie, you would think we would stand a good chance of STOVL - but sadly no

BTW Warhawk that was Canberra you saw not Adelaide

Our new CoN to be has had a ride in a TA-4K at Nowra back in 2001 just before they all went skedaddlin' back to NZed and oblivion. Story in Navy News 21 Jan 2002, with the only female A-4K pilot in front doing the chauffeuring.

CMDR Pete Clark Died in 2007. An excellent obituary is recorded in 'Reserve News' 08 Feb 2007. Pete was a distinguished helo pilot in Vietnam before flying the A4G etc. I did not realise that the new CoN is an Observer - so he really needed his TA-4K chauffeuse!

Crikey,..sorry ,..Nuship Canberra,

Observation:Certainly is quite different to the Espanard version,...extra gear like the middle frame suite of electronics/Radar (SPQ-9B Horizon Search radar?) etc.
Australianising these ships(AWD etc) seems to be more then just a few items every time. IE the AWDs will have an additional SPQ-9B Horizon Search radar in addition to the designed SPY 1D(V) PAR system.

Wonder whether they should put the CEAFAR system (and maybe a vertical launcher) on the Nu Ship Adelaide and bias the ship as a Forward Control Command ship, with secondary Amphid/Special Ops role, with stores system to handle all of the F-35B(fitted for but not in inventory) so that the USMC can come to the rescue.

Back to birdies,....one day I'll do some research on the EMU/135th and try for those serials of US Army UH-1's etc. When,..who knows. I'm interested, and that's always a great start for me. Unless its been done?

Ciao mona me
Gordy

Thanks Gordy for the pic in JB. Directly above the forward flight deck is the clock tower of the old RANC / HMAS Creswell with other married quarters buildings on the left above mid island.

I have seen a lot of online speculation about what is and is not in our LHDs compared to the Spanith version. I do not really know what is in or out - would be nice to find some official info online but not to date. Anyway the flight deck is still there and as long as sufficient helos choof off then the other nation F-35Bs can have a go at the ski jump.
