Dear Brendan

I received this message (see below) from Margaret Holden a few weeks ago. She is obviously very keen to track down John. Margaret would welcome any clues as to his whereabouts. Margaret is happy to be contacted directly. Her email address is mmholden@bigpond.com or  0419 371 482

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris,

I am trying to locate an old Marcellin boy hopefully through your data base. He would have been born in 1945 or 1946 and his name was John Smith. ( You can understand the difficulty with such a name ! ) I've tried the RSL( John was conscripted into the Army during the Vietnam war ) and Vic Roads with no success. Too many John Smiths. He lived in Camberwell and went to Marcellin after attending Our Lady of Victories.

He was a close childhood friend of my brother's Michael Lynch who as a young Sub Lt in the Fleet Air Arm was killed when his vampire jet crashed in 1967. Michael was 22 years old.

After all these years the RAAF, RAN and the Federal Government are going to honor my brother's heroism in avoiding a busy freeway when he crashed, by naming a bridge near Point Cook in his honor. The ceremony will take place on February 26 , 2013 and I'd really like John to be there if he is still alive and living in Victoria.

Would really value your help.
Kind regards
Margaret ( Lynch) Holden

Margaret Holden

I was just starting flying training (ground school) at Point Cook when Michael Lynch was killed. Then at beginning of 1968 we started flying, to then visit Laverton for circuit work. Very sad to hear about the death of Michael and his young RAAF passenger.

I have a training class photo of Michael with the Winjeel and photo of the crash remains in the PDF. I'll put these pages online.

On SpazSinbad on SkyDrive in the 'Documents Various' folder is:

"MickLynchVampire1967CrashLavertonNo59pilotCourse.pdf" (0.9Mb)

Many thanks Phil,

I've passed that on to Margaret Holden this morning.

Thanks for the very quick response.

No problem. I was always sad not to have met a great bloke by all reports. The message has been passed on to some of those who knew him - all those years ago now.
