Just an update :
Army will commence the Acceptance Into Operational Service (AIOS) transition from the current fleet of D Model Chinook helicopters to the new CH-47F Model Chinook, Medium Lift Helicopters and associated equipment from May 2015. The current six CH-47D+ Model Chinooks will be progressively withdrawn from service starting in the first quarter of 2015, with the final D Model being withdrawn by first quarter 2016. (One is to go to the AWM,..bets are on A15-201) The aircraft and associated equipment are being purchased through a Foreign Military Sales program with the US Army. The first aircraft is due to arrive in May 2015 while the first TFPSs were due for delivery in May 2014, and the second arriving in August 2014. Now, just to nab the Serials! Gordy |

After an exhaustive few months of researching, I think our FY Serials for our Australian Army CH-47Fs should be the following seven FY Serials of the first multi-year II configured CH-47F contract.
The First Multi Year Contract CH-47F was delivered to the US Army on the 30th July 14 look like the next batch,........Batch 13-08432 / 13-08443 maybe a 5/7 split for UAE/Australia? but could be a spread anywhere per: 12-08431 M-8431 1 a/c Delivered 12-08857 / 12-08869 M-8857 / M-8869 13a/c 12-08874 / 12-08888 M-8874 / M-8888 15a/c 13-08432 / 13-08443 M-8432 / M-8443 12a/c 14-08444 / 14-08449 M-8444 / M-8449 6 a/c 15-08450 / 15-08453 M-8450 / M-8453 3 a/c Time will tell in a few weeks/month,..though the period of drag per FY Prefix Serials per Australia may upset this. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Best Gordy |

New Cargo Helicopters for Army Based In Townsville – 5 May 2015
(Source: Australian Department of Defence; issued May 5, 2015) We are pleased to announce the commissioning into service of the first two CH-47F Chinook ‘Foxtrot’ helicopters. This Project, which represents an investment of $631 million in Australia’s safety and security, will deliver seven Chinook Foxtrots and two flight simulators, with all major equipment deliveries scheduled for completion by August 2015. These helicopters, which will be operated by Army’s 5th Aviation Regiment from the RAAF Base at Townsville, will provide a modern and improved cargo helicopter capability for the Army. In addition to this investment, following Parliamentary approval last year, $49.8 million will be invested to support the introduction and sustainment of the new Chinook. Construction at RAAF Base Townsville is scheduled for completion in mid-2017. This project will provide strong economic benefit to the local community, with opportunities for up to 800 construction industry personnel. Both simulators ordered under this project have already been delivered and are now being used for Army’s Chinook crews to safely undertake a wide range of training scenarios in support of the capability. The outgoing Delta-model Chinooks have proven themselves as the Army’s operational ‘workhorse’ and the new Foxtrots will further enhance this capability for the Australian Defence Force. The aircraft and associated equipment are being purchased through the United States Foreign Military Sales program; maintenance support will be provided locally through partnerships with Boeing Defence Australia and BAE Systems. The project remains on schedule and under budget. -ends- [I][B] |

I saw 4 CH-47Fs on the 5AVN flightline last week, A15-301 to A15-304.
All 7 have been delivered, the last in August. All are the lighter colour shown above. There was still one dark coloured CH-47D on the line, evidently allocated to a museum. One is going (or gone) to AWM (as Gordy suggests poss -201), and one to RAAFM Point Cook (prob batch -102/-106 because of the ex-RAAF connection). |

For info, CH-47D A15-152 arrived at Campbell Barracks, Swanbourne, Western Australia on 6 August 2015 to be added as an exhibit to the SAS Museum. Flown over from Townsville, via Mt Isa, Alice Springs, Warburton, Kalgoorlie, Southern Cross and RAAF Base Pearce.

CH-47F
I was just in Canberra, and in a foyer of a Russell office is model of A15-301. Marked as "08075" on the tail. It would be referring to 11-08075, But ours are not that old, must be 13-xxxxx serials. So this does not tie in. Will be back again in Townsville in November so will try to check up close.[B] |

Indeed:
WASHINGTON, Dec. 21, 2015 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Australia for CH-47F aircraft, related equipment and support. The estimated cost is $180 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on December 18, 2015. The Government of Australia has requested a possible sale of: Major Defense Equipment (MDE): Three (3) CH-47F Chinook Helicopters Six (6) T55-GA-714A Aircraft Turbine Engines Three (3) Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade & Below (FBCB2)/Blue Force Tracker (BFT) Three (3) Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS) Three (3) Honeywell H-764 Embedded Global Positioning/Inertial Navigation Systems Three (3) Infrared Signature Suppression Systems This request also includes the following Non-Major Defense Equipment; AN/APX-123A Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Transponders, Defense Advanced Global Positioning System (GPS) Receiver (DAGR), AN/ARC-201D SINCGARS Airborne Radio Systems, AN/ARC-220 High Frequency Airborne Communication Systems, AN/ARC-231(V)© Airborne VHF/UHF/LOS SATCOM Communications Systems, KY-100 Secure Communication Systems, KIV-77 Common IFF Cryptographic Computers, AN/AVS-6 Aviator’s Night Vision Systems, AN/ARN-147 Very High Frequency (VHF) Omni Ranging/Instrument Landing System Receiver, AN/PYQ-10© Simple Key Loaders, AN/ARN-153 Tactical Airborne Navigation (TACAN) System, Spare Parts, Tools, Ground Support Equipment, Technical Publications, Contractor and U.S. Government Technical Services. The total estimated value of MDE is $105 million. The total overall estimated value is $180 million. This proposed sale will enhance the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a strategic partner which has been, and continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress within the Pacific region and globally. The proposed sale of the CH-47F aircraft will improve Australia's heavy lift capability. Australia will use the enhanced capability to strengthen its homeland defense and deter regional threats. The CH-47F aircraft will replace Australia’s retiring CH-47D aircraft. Australia will have no difficulty absorbing these aircraft into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractor will be the Boeing Helicopter Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There are no known offset agreements at this time associated with this proposed sale. Implementation of this sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. or contractor representatives to Australia. There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale. This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded. |

Rumour has it that #8 will be delivered ex USA in June 2016, with deliveries following monthly after that. The US Army has given up 3 slots to facilitate it.
No further research on my part has discovered what the FMS FY Serials of these first 7, now 10 yet,...so "HELP!" These last three will have a FY Serial,..if only once allotted by original purchaser,....US Army. So they could be in the 15-08462 plus range and should be "new build" rather then CH-47D rebuilds Perhaps the three out of "15-08450 / 15-08453 M-8450 / M-8453 4 a/c" One thing has been noticed since the CH-47Fs arrived; they're been equipped with Sand Filters and extended IR Suppressors on each engine. The numbers I have are: A15-301 11-07431 A15-302 11-07432 A15-303 11-07433 A15-304 11-07434 A15-305 11-07435 A15-306 11-07436 A15-307 11-07437 These are not given in Joe Baugher's FY 2011 list. Two new ones so far: A15-308 14-08448 A15-309 14-08449 which would tie into msn M8448 and M8449. Best source so far, I am still pursuing 10th aircraft, probably 14-08450 (I guess). |

Mission # 2 Batman,....you have to find why apart from the US Army FY Serials of the new #9/8/10 13th June 2016 by USAF C-17A, where's the A15 Serials?
The Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) has delivered three additional Boeing CH-47F Chinook helicopters two and a half months ahead of schedule in a major boost to the Australian Army’s medium-lift helicopter capability. Source AAv,..the good news since 1977 Or is this #A15-310 Pictured per last thread? Best Gordy Attached Image |
