Fairey Gannet 829 http://www.faaaa.asn.au/crash-of-gannet-xa356/
"The Fairey Gannet was a rugged aircraft, but what happened on board HMAS Melbourne on 30 March 1960 was beyond all expectations. On this occasion Gannet 829 (piloted by Lt P. McNay, 816 Squadron) suffered a lost of power on one engine as it was about to land on the flight deck, causing the aircraft to sink and hit the round-down. Bouncing onto the flight deck the Gannet slewed onto its side – tearing a wing off in the process. Fortunately an arrestor wire was picked-up which prevented the aircraft from going over the side. Remarkably all three air-crew emerged from the wrecked aircraft – shaken but uninjured they walked away. Due to the extensive damage to the aircraft it was a write-off. In this instance all salvageable parts were stripped from the airframe and the remains consigned to Davey Jones’s locker. Photos courtesy of Kim Dunstan" FOUR at WEBSITE - ONE BELOW is CROPPed.
