From the latest Flypast magazine
Beaufort cockpit to be restored in Sussex Wings Museum has recently welcomed the arrival of a Bristol Beaufort Mk.VIII cockpit from Australia. It had previously been in the care of Historical Aircraft Restorations at Albion Park, New South Wales. The acquisition is one of the five Beauforts recovered in 1974 from Tadji in Papua New Guinea by David Tallichet and his team. The Balcombe, Sussex-based attraction plans to restore the exhibit to display condition – a cache of equipment and internal fittings, such as the pilot’s seat, instrument panel and controls, was included in the shipment. The cockpit is believed to have belonged to an Australian-built Beaufort that served with the RAAF’s 100 Squadron. The unit flew its first operation in June 1942, and later that year deployed to New Guinea where it flew recce patrols, anti-shipping and bombing sorties against the Japanese both there and in the Solomon Islands. www.wingsmuseum.co.uk |

Here is a picture of it on Facebook
This is (I believe) the cockpit from A9-555 formally owned by Graham Kilsby / the Bristol Heritage Collection in Nashville Tennessee USA. One of the aircraft recovered by Monty Armstrong from Tadji Airfield in PNG in 1974 for MACS / Dave Tallichet This post has been edited by mark_pilkington on May 14 2020, 10:02 PM Attached Image |
