G'day,
I'm quite new to the site and I love it. I myself am a huey nut and cant get enough of these machines, particularly in Oz colours. But there does seem to be a lack of books/pics available on them in their Aus. servivce. Am i right? This has led me to research my own book, but being a "civillian" and quite young still (29), i dont have to many links to the aircraft! What I'm chasing is as many pics of the UH-1H as possible, specifacally in it's 'camo' markings, Raaf and Army that i can get my hands on. Does anyone know who I could contact to get such pics, I Know there must be thousands out there! I've got quite a few from trawling the net, but feel I'm only scratching the surface. Any help would be great. Also, does anyone know what the chances of a civillian photographer getting on the base to take pics of the Huey befrore retirement would be? Cheers chris. p.s I wanna make it a big book. |

Hi Chris, welcome aboard.
Obviously our own Gallery is a good starting point for pics, you should have no problems getting permission to use them in your book also. Another good place to look is Darren Mottram's web site (motty.hobbyvista.com/) he has a good collection of aircraft pics. There is already a book out on the Iroquoi by Stewart Wilson, out of print now but you may be able to pick up a copy second hand. With regard to getting on base for pics, pretty slim, it does happen but you would be better off using the infrequent "Open Days". Happy hunting. Rod. :D |

the single engine Hueys in particular.Even the civil 412's sound good.I have a few photos i can e-mail to you if you like. Also you may wish to try airlines.net and jetphotos.net Regards mark P.S Yes this is a great site. This post has been edited by mark on Mar 15 2007, 05:49 PM |

Cheers guys, researched most of those links already and Wilsons book on the iroquois is excellent but was published not long after the army hand over. I guess the army huey pics are becoming the hardest to find, which is of course what i want most! Airliners.net and myaviation.net have great aus huey pics aswell.
cheers chris. |

Another site I forgot to mention (airwarvietnam.com). it has some pics but also a lot of links to related sites, mostly US of course. You will have to spend a bit of time searching but is worth it.

Hey Chris,
If you like Huey's have you read the book "Chickenhawk" by Robert Mason....a great read about a US Army pilot flying Huey's in Vietnam. Regards Mark |

chickenhawk is awesome, probably my favourite book. In the right hands, would make an excellent film i reckon.
