Simple question. Did he win a DFC during WWI?

I was looking into the details of Fltlt H.W. Ross who was killed when the Fairey Battle he was flying crashed near Moss Vale when on a delivery Flight. He was 44.

I had previously seen information to saw that he was a DFC winner, believing him to have won it in Europe. When I did a search on the AWM honours and Awards data base I failed to find my H.W. Ross but instead found a Lt Hector William Ross that was awarded a DFC on 3 June 1919.

According to WW2 Nominal Roll Flt lt H.W. Ross was born in 18 Feb 1896.
According to Cutlacks Official History of the AFC Lt H.W. Ross was born in 1895.

Are they the same man? Any help would be great.

Yes, Dean, same man.

The NAA has his personal file digitised. He was Hector William and born 18 Feb 1896, awarded the DFC in 1919.

Despite the AWM detail of his DFC gazettal, a search of the on-line London Gazette for that date and page no did not find his entry. The LG search can be picky on detail, doesn't mean he's not there.

All the best
