Nice work Martin, and quite a few photos that I hadn't seen before too!

My quick update for today is the A5 Vickers Vimy

I have brought the page up to our current format (compare with the old Vimy Page ) and also updated the text and photo links.

While I was updating the link to our RAAF Series One page I felt an overwhelming urge to drop the dear old Wapiti (which I will bring up to the new format soon) from the series one page and just leave it linked from the RAAF Series Two page.

Given that the Vimy was allocated the A5 cypher in 1921 and the Wapiti was re-alloacted the A5 cypher in 1929, I think that this constitues the real start of Series Two (i.e. the second use of a serial range). Having two A5's in series one and the Wapiti repeated between the series has always looked untidy to my mind!

I know that the Wapiti has been recorded in both series for several generations - so I am rocking the historical boat a bit here.

Anyway, I thought I'd throw this thought out for your learned consideration before I succombed to my radical thoughts and edited the poor old Wapiti from Series one!

Over to you folks!

The series two aircraft spanned the years 1935 to 1960
As the Wapiti entered service in 1929 IMHO I think it should remain where it is as a series one aircraft. The Vimy never wore it's A5 in service

There are other instances of aircraft being in both series, the A7 Moth and A12 Bulldog and later on the A13 Link Trainer

Confusingly the DH.50 appeared as first series A8 and second series A10

To be pedantic the second series A3 was first allocated to the Dragon Rapide and then after the two Rapides were disposed it was allocated to the Wackett Trainer
(The Dragon Rapides re-appeared as A33, the former A3-1 becoming A33-3)
Maybe we should make a further note of this because I have seen a photo somewhere of a Rapide identified as a Wackett

Thanks Martin,

It is an interesting subject with a few built in conunderums!

While we have a think about it, here is the first pass of the updated Wapiti page.

http://www.adf-serials.com.au/1a5.htm

Only four more pages to go to bring all of Series One pages up to our current format!

Also I'm working on a whole batch of major pages updates courtesy of the Phantom!

Cheers

Image links added today for two AFC types:

Handley Page 0/400 http://www.adf-serials.com.au/afc11.htm

Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter http://www.adf-serials.com.au/afc7.htm

and

The AFC index page http://www.adf-serials.com.au/afc.htm

I have still got a task on on my list to complete the AFC pages by producing a page for the Armstrong Whitworth F.K.3 and B.E.12 & B.E.12a.

That is unless some one would like to volunteer!

One day!

This week Martin and I have been updating our Beaufighter pages and Beaufighter Image Galleries:

A8 DAP Beaufighter http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a8.htm (Gordy, I couldn’t resist using that image of A8-173 as the title photo!)

A19 Bristol Beaufighter http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a19.htm

455 & 456 Sqn Beaufighters http://www.adf-serials.com.au/beaufighter.htm (This one was a major job with every airframe updated and several added, as well as marks, etc)

We need a source for the C/N to serials tie up for the thre Beaufighter pages – any ideas?

I’ve also updated the corresponding index pages:

RAAF Series Two http://www.adf-serials.com.au/raaf2.htm

RAAF Article XV Squadrons http://www.adf-serials.com.au/rafww11.htm

And we've also updated the image links for the Bandeirante http://www.adf-serials.com.au/bandeirante.htm

Cheers

Updated Republic Lancer page
Seems that we are being quoted and linked to a lot from other forums due to the reported recovery of such an aircraft from a building site in Wagga.
A very interesting discovery if true.

One completely revamped page today:

Vickers Viking http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a82.htm

This was a bit of a doozey as it's registration was mixed up with that several other Vikings during it's time which lead to some confusion, but here it is all straightened out - I hope!

That's one aircraft with a really varied history.
It is a shame that it sucumbed to the scrappie rather than be given an honorable retirement in a museum.

Thanks Martin,

Todays RAAF Rarity is the:

Vultee Stinson Vigilant http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a64.htm

We could do with more details on this type including the reasons that the A64 serial range was allocated at at all!

Anyway, this is a little bit of what we know so far about these aircraft in RAAF sevice.

Cheers

And here is another RAAF "ultra' rarity in the form of an aircraft that never flew with the RAAF:

Vickers Valetta http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a87.htm

To be honest, this is actually really a holding page for the type as it would be great to tell the story of why the A87 type number was issued in the first place.

Anyway, we now a have a page up for every aircraft in the RAAF Second Series!

Cheers

Hunting Jet Provost http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a99.htm

We could do with some more photos of this rare little jet.

Over to you.

Last one for today!

This time we have split the A-30 serialled DC-2, DC-3 and C-47's into their own page while bringing it up to our current format and image presentation:

Douglas A-30 DC-2, DC-3 & C-47 http://adf-serials.com.au/2a30.htm

One day soon, we will do the same for the A65 serialled (C-47, C-49, C-50 & C-54) Dakota's.

Hi all,

The first catch of the day is an updated page on:

Convair CV-440 Metropolitan http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a96.htm

Has anyone got info on the final fate of A96-313?

It seems that A96-353 is still active!

For the moment I've added generic photos from Link Corporation of CNT's but does any one have any photos of A63-1 at East Sale?

We can always count on you to plug the gaps.

Quite handy as it turns out in the world of flying boats!

All three images have now been added to the page.
