Thanks to a prompter from Gordy, we have updated the following pages relating to "ANA" serialled aircraft:

RAN Page

Fairey IIID Page

I have a huge backlog of page updates and limited time this month due to work and business travel commitments.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to action more of these soon.

Cheers

After a timely prompter from Gordy, I have added links to the current Oxford and Tiger Moth pages for now on the RAN Page to close the gap until we can organise some pages that highlight these types in RAN service.

I have also changed the way that we link to the image gallery for each type while I'm at it to make that more visually appealing - let me know what you think.

One day I'll get back to fleshing out my Oxford and Battle Pages!

Cheers :D

This is a good format BC, it makes for an easy starting point for those ( like myself) who may not be familliar with all the early aircraft.

Updated C-17A Globemaster page adding A41-211 and images.
Also added the construction numbers for the first five delivered.
Does anyone know the construction number of A41-211?

Thanks Rod & Martin,

Here is the latest index page upgraded to the new format with photo image links:

RAAF Series Three Index Page

Next will be a big one - RAAF Series Two.

Also, Martin and I have been kicking around a few options for the index page for the image gallery itself.

This will be in celbration of our rapidly approaching milestone of 20,000 images in our galleries!

Stay tuned for more developments.

Martin,

Thanks for the mighty effort to get so much of the image backlog shifted into albums over the weekend!

Outstanding effort!

Cheers

Fantastic Martin!

That is outstanding!

I was watching you and trying to keep pace all day yesterday!

Every time that you moved and image or set up a gallery, I updated a page – it was a cracking ride, but I had most of it done yesterday and started early this morning to catch up the rest. :-)

I think that I have restored pretty much all of the links to the new locations that you’ve set up.

There is still some further work for me to do on http://www.adf-serials.com.au/rafww11.htm as we don’t have dedicated aircraft galleries for some types.

I might have to think up a way to link to multiple squadron and type galleries, but for now I have done a quick job to get it looking better and hope to do more on this later in the week.

This also opens up a few more "gallery gaps" including:

Manchester
Defiant
Blenheim
Maryland
Wellington
Lysander
Caproni Ca.164

I have no doubt that we will close these gaps soon too with the support of our contributors.

I can see that the upload page is already starting to fill with images to plug some of the gaps!

Anyway, top effort.

For now here is the new:

Aircraft operated by WWII RAAF & RNZAF units within the RAF

Looks like we are heading to a big finish for updates to the site in 2012!

:D

Thanks Brendan for keeping up with the photo links

Thanks Rod
Westland Lysander photos added to 3 Squadron album
http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/3-Squadron

DH-83 Fox Moth
http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/Fox-Moth

Waco YQC-6
http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/Waco-YQC-6

RFD Winged Target
http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/RFD-Winged-Target

Curtiss Shrike
http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/Curtiss-Shrike

Just being a bit pedantic but the Curtiss A25A Shrike was not actually a Helldiver but a land based dive bomber based on the naval SB2C Helldiver
I think we should refrain from calling it the Helldiver (and correct our spelling of Curtis to Curtiss)

I am also not sure if we should be calling the L-4 Grasshopper a Piper Cub any more than we should call a Hudson a Lockheed Electra! Thoughts?

Thanks Martin,

This mornings updates are:

RAAF Series Two Index Page

Added links to Fox Moth, Waco YQC-6, RFD Winged Target, Curtiss Shrike albums and put a placeholder image in in anticipation of the DH Sea Hornet Album.

The non-Helldiver is now a Shrike. ;)

Aircraft operated by WWII RAAF & RNZAF units within the RAF

Added links to Lysander albums and tidied up the presentation of the Squadron Albums.

Do we have any existing albums for the Manchester, Defiant, Blenheim, Maryland, Wellington or Caproni Ca.164?

(Folks, that is my not very subtle appeal for images! B) )

Other Aircraft operated by the RAAF & ADF

The non-Cub is now a Grasshopper.

More updates to come for a bumper edition of updates before we close out for November!

Thanks to everyone for your support!

:D

Hi Brendan,

Regarding the list of aircraft you mentioned -

Defiant. The only photo i have ever seen is in a book called 'Turret Fighters' by Alex Brew. There is a cropped photo showing a Defiant 1 coded SA-H. The serial is not visible in the photo. I am not sure of the copyright status of this photo.

Blenhiem. There are a few photos in the 454 Squadron history 'Alamein to the Alps' and I think one photo in the book 'Fighter Nights' on 456 Squadron. The 454 Squadron photos show 2 Blenhiem IV's and one Blenhiem V. I have to check, but I think the 456 squadron aircraft might be a Mk 1. Regarding copyright for these photos, best to contact the authors Mark Lax and John Bennett. The 454 Squadron book is free on the web at the squadron web site but not sure about using the photos.

Never seen any photos of a Manchester but there should be plenty of the Wellington. I would be very suprised if you ever found a picture of the Maryland. I think this was only ever loaned from one of the RAF squadrons for early training and an early op.

I've attached a photo of the model I made of the Defiant but the serial is just educated guesswork.

Cheers

Michael

Thanks Michael,

Let's see what those tips yield.

We are contact with some of the authors that you named.

Some of them watch these very pages! ;)

As ever, that's a very sharp looking model of the Defiant - which kit and scale is it?

On the topic of photos, the following pages have had image links updated today:

BE.12 & BE.12a

SE.5a

CAC Wackett Trainer

Brendan

Hi Brendan,

Thanks for the compliment. The kit is one of the newer Czech kits by MPM in 1/72 scale. Not perfect but miles better than the old Airfix kit.

I checked out Fighter Nights - There is one photo of a 456 Squadron Blenhiem 1 - L4907 still with the code number '20' from its use at 54OTU.

A bit of bonus information -

I've just been talking to Dick Hourigan about Boomerangs and he supplied this update based on Roy Goon's log books

Currently the text for A46-114 reads -
Served with 83 Sqn and was coded "MH-O" with that Sqn and had "Bambi" on the cowl; from early May 1943 [I]
This should be from early May 1944. In May 1943 Roy was still with 85 Sqn in WA.

Regards

Michael

Couldn't find any Manchester pics BC but did find this mention

L7464 61, 50, 57 Sqns, 460 Sqn, 1AAS became 3624M

According to the same source R5474 was in a batch that was cancelled in favour of Lancaster production.

Thanks Gents,

Michael,

We'll add that to the next update of the Boomerang page.

Rod,

I'd like to get our Manchester Page updated which only lists L7464 and R5474 but might have to go with a more generic Manchester photo to accompany it.

Anyway, my final updates for today (and for the month) are all related:

Avro 707A

Avro Vulcan

Handley Page Victor New Page

Vickers Valiant

New information and photos would be very much appreciated.

I'm off for a quick break for the next week and will be back again after that.

Cheers
