OK not many people are interested in Navy aircraft,but... does anyone out there have the names of any of the Navy Seahawks? The only one I have at the moment is:
N24-012 Call sign "Aussie 012" and named as "Agro" from 816 Sqdn. Dave  |

G'day Dave,
I'm interested in them... unfortunately I guess not many contributors see them that often. We cant get a list of names together unless someone tells us... See we have Len for the Army aircraft so we get the Blackhawk and Chinook names quite easily... I'm sure someone will step up in time... Darren |

Hi Dave,
Are these actual names applied to the Seahawks or radio callsigns? BC |

Brendan..I take it mean that it is an actual name. Looks like Navy 012 was/is the call sign. I'm going up to the Museum at Nowra on Wednesday...see if I can find out a bit more about them. I know that the Navy Squirels had names at one time.

G'day Brendan,
The name that I have seen and photographed from the last Avalon is located on the front of the aircraft in the middle above the windscreen on the seahawks... I dont know if they all have names though... Darren |

Dave,
I could be wrong but my understanding is that the Seahawks use the callsign Tiger... ie Tiger 81 (sidecode 81)... Aussie is used when on International ops... When I was doing my PPL training in a Cessna 150 here at canberra once I heard a seahawk operating from Duntroon... I think it was Tiger 81. Darren |

Yes Darren that would be right..816Sqdn motto being "Imitate the action of the tiger" Hence the Tiger prefix to the side Number. Aussie 12 stands to reason I guess mate when they are overseas.

The latest issue of "Combat Aircraft" Volume 7 Number 5 with a USN Hornet on the cover has an article on RAN Seahwaks. There are several photos featuring
N24-012/81.In these photos "81" has a name on the top of the nose in front of the Pilot and looks to read "Syndrome". Anyway I hope this helps...and lots of people are interested in Naval Aviation ! regards mark |

Thanks Mark..yes I think the FAA is very important but has been downsized far to much. We need a fixed wing element the way that our region is changing. I'll have to delve a little deeper into the Seahawk names.
