Hello Sailors

On reading the history of VX379 214 K it states that it hit the island of HMS Sydney and hints it ended its days thereafter, though my new pic shows it damaged on landing with debris and canopies opened terra firma Nowra in 1950.

Can any one(miss you Windy) confirm actuals

Best
Gordy

That photo fits in with the history that we have, although no mention of it hitting the island of HMAS Sydney. There was a photo of the accident aboard HMAS Sydney advertised on ebay but at present I am unable to find it.
Perhaps ithe damage from the Sydney incident wasn't too bad and it returned to service.

VX379 AS5 F8411 Delivered to King George V Docks, Glasgow, Scotland on 04 April 1949 and was embarked in HMAS SYDNEY. Landed at Jervis Bay 31 May 1949 and towed by road to RANAS Nowra. Flown by 816 Squadron as 214/K and on 11 January 1950 aircraft badly damaged beyond repair. Reduced to Spares and Produce by 13 September 1950.

That history that Martin put up would be correct. Windy was pretty well spot on with that. I have quite a few photos here from the FAA museum. I'll have a look through them and see if I can find one of the prang on HMAS Sydney.

Here is a heavy landing. Look at the wheel strut sticking through the top of the wing
