Sir Sidney donated two aircraft to the Australian government.

Sometime around WW!

Does any one know what type and serial numbers.

Thanks

Col

According to Keith Isaacs' book "Military Aircraft of Australia 1909-1918" Sir Sydney Kidman donated UKP 2,700 on 8 August 1916 to the Australian Air Squadrons Funds which resulted in a Royal Aircraft Factory F.E.2b Ser. No. 7027 being designated "The Sydney Kidman".

This aircraft was not operated in Australia nor by an Australian squadron.

This aircraft was replaced by another F.E.2b Ser. No. 6971, presumably because of attrition of the previous aircraft. It does not appear that any more money was donated. It seems it was tagged solely to keep the name on an aircraft.
