For those who maybe interested, the word is that we are to have a third Army Aviation
Regiment with effect 01 January 2009.

The Regiment will be the 6th Aviation Regiment and it will be formed with the amalgamation of 171 Avn Sqn and 173 Survl Sqn.

171 Avn Sqn is the Squadron that is based at Holsworthy and 173 Survl Sqn is the Fixed Wing Squadron based at Oakey.

Interesting.

I've been mulling over the rational why 5th Aviation uses A, B C etc and why 1st Aviation uses their old Squadron numbers,..and now you throw in 6th Aviation!!

To keep History going (doubting that the RAAF will ever sport any more active units), why the 5th Aviation shouldn't use the RAAF Number Plates of 4, 5 and 9 Squadrons or even 4, 5 and 12 Squadrons.

This is because of their Army Co-op history of the last 90 years or so.

Just a passing thought

more likely to annoy the RAAF types... it does seem funny to do things that way.
