Following the accidental triggering of the fire system, a hangar in Darwin was inundated with AFFF foam.
Unfortunately, as well as being thoroughly nasty to humans (carcinogenic) AFFF is also highly corrosive and therefore not what you want to bathe your airframes in. My impeccable sources believe we can scratch one Blackhawk and a PC9 engine that was also in the hangar, but a P3 on the hardstand outside should be OK. I hasten to add that the hangar was not under RAAF control at the time. :o) GPH |

Toxic foam drifts over Darwin
Toxic fire-fighting foam phased out by fire brigades years ago because of health concerns has drifted into Darwin suburbs after an electrical fault at a defence base. The US-made foam was emitted on Sunday by an automatic fire suppression system at the Darwin RAAF base and blew into nearby suburbs, authorities said.
